A good wine can often carry a hefty price tag but one of the benefits of living in Spain is the bonus of excellent wine that won’t break the bank. Lidl is known for offering a wide variety of wines at very affordable prices so it was pleasing to find out this week that one of Spain’s most highly rated wines is on sale at the supermarket chain for under €4 a bottle.
Coto de Ibedo, a Ribeiro D.O.* wine from the 2020 harvest is ranked by sommeliers as one of the best white wines in Spain. Although it’s a young wine, the experts say it has a very balanced taste in which its fruity notes stand out. The key, say the experts, is in the three types of grapes used to make it, which give it the optimum balance.
A bottle costs only €3.99, so you can have a very good white wine to accompany your fish or seafood dishes, without spending a fortune.
*Denominación de Origen (DO) Some wines will have DO labelled after the name of the region, meaning that this is a quality-controlled appellation that has been awarded a higher status of winemaking.
