Buying Property in Torrevieja
The city of Torrevieja spans a large area and is made up of many different suburbs, all with their own personalities. The town center itself is a lively and cosmopolitan place with a great mixture of Spanish bars, markets and restaurants which often stay busy long into the summer nights. There are three marinas in the town all with bars and restaurants that make a great place to take a coffee or a cocktail and watch life on the Mediterranean. All along the coast of the town are some lovely clean beaches with something to suit everyone. Some of the more lively beaches offer all kinds of beach bars and water sports whereas some of the more quieter ones are ideal for chilling with the family and kids. Just on the outskirts of town, you can still find some fairly private and rugged little coves and the legendary dog-friendly Caleta dels Gossets beach is a just a 30 minutes drive.
Although Torrevieja is technically just a town, it has long been used to refer to a larger collection of smaller regions and urbanisations. It is difficult to find an official and definitive list of these areas, but here are a few that are often referred to by both.
The three urbanisations of La Siesta, San Luis and El Chaparral sit just on the outskirts of the town and have long since merged into one larger urbanisation. This is a very popular area with both the expats and the Spanish and you can find a great mixture of small bungalows, townhouses and luxury villas.
One of the oldest and largest collection of suburbs in Torrevieja is Las Torretas. There are 3 separate urbanizations with the oldest being Torreta 1 and the largest Torreta 3. Only a short distance from the town center and busy with bars, restaurants and shops , properties here are very popular with both expats and the Spanish. You can still find some original traditional Spanish 1 and 2 bedroom bungalow style properties. The newer urbanizations of El Coral, El Limonar and Jardin del Mar are in a similar location, but have far more quads and townhouses.
Just along the coast of Torrevieja are some lovely beaches and urbanisations that come under the umbrella of the town, but are also referred to as separate suburbs. Just a few kilometers South of the town center is the popular beach of Playa del Cura, here you can still find some surprisingly cheap apartments within a few minutes from the Mediterranean. A quick five-minute drive south along the coast from here is the area of Mar Azul which is a very popular beachside resort well liked by the Spanish and the expats. There are some lovely beaches, restaurants and cafes here and property is still surprisingly cheap for such a nice spot. A little further south is Punta Prima which is a very well established and large community and boasts a fantastic stretch of coast and a great variation of affordable and luxurious properties. A five-minute walk north of the town is La Mata which really is a town in its own right. It is a surprisingly busy little suburb with a beautiful stretch of beach lined with all types of cafes, restaurants and nightlife.
